People To People (P2P) Education Mission is on a mission to start rebuilding schools in Amhara and Afar regions that were damaged in the recent conflicts.
As many of you are aware, the recent tragic internal conflict in Ethiopia has impacted the lives of millions of innocent civilians and have had profound effects at many different levels, including destruction and severely damaging the existing infrastructure and leaving the country in an unprecedented state of despair and tragedy. Sadly, more than 7,000 schools in the Afar and Amhara regions of Ethiopia were destroyed and damaged. As a result, in the Afar and Amhara regions alone, more than 1.42 million students are out of school and missing education; children can’t afford another year of school disruption.
We believe that through the collective efforts of Ethiopians around the world we can help rebuild these communities and provide support.
At People to People, we are humbled by the wave of inspired, dedicated, and motivated people who have contacted us willing to serve those in need. Several medical missions from the Ethiopian diaspora community have been deployed and are traveling monthly to serve different regions affected by the turmoil at their own expense. Now it is time for a new mission which is to rebuild at least 10 schools: 3 Afar and 7 in the Amhara region. Join us and help make a real difference in the lives of the affected communities and students and to transform these schools into an effective & dynamic learning environment.

As many of you remember, last year’s tragic internal conflict in Ethiopia impacted the lives of millions of innocent civilians and have had profound effects at many different levels, including destruction and severely damaging the existing infrastructure and leaving the country in an unprecedented state of despair and tragedy. Sadly, more than 7,000 schools in the Afar and Amhara regions of Ethiopia were destroyed and damaged. As a result, in the Afar and Amhara regions alone, more than 1.42 million students are out of school and missing education; children can’t afford another year of school disruption.
Wurgessa is a small town located in the district of Habru, in the North Wollo zone of the Amhara Region, Ethiopia. The primary school was severely damaged as a result of the internal conflict in late 2021. Wurgessa Primary school (grade 1-8) experienced significant loss in terms of damage to school buildings, destruction of teaching materials, desks and chairs and the library.
In early 2022, People To People (P2P) Education Mission embarked on a journey to rebuild schools and provide school materials to some of the damaged schools. The team travelled to Worgessa to asses and discuss the rebuilding process with school officials and local community leaders.
The team held several fundraising events to raise the required fund to rebuild the school. Once enough fund was raised, the team assembled volunteers and paid staff members to work with contractors, school officials and community leaders to repair the damage.
Despite several set-backs including the possibility of another war, the team focused getting the school ready in time for the new school year. In August 2022, Worgessa Primary School was repaired and ready to welcome students.
Message from P2P Education Team
The P2P Education Team wants to thank volunteers and supporters for making it possible to repair Worgessa Primary School. There is nothing that makes the team happy than seeing the students learning in a clean and safe envrionments.
