Girls Boarding Care

The Amanuel Girls’ Boarding Care Center serves children whose families have been affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis. P2P established the Care Center in 2004.

We serve around 50 orphan girls who are attending secondary school at traditional public schools, but face financial restrictions. Some (around 15) live full-time at the Care Center and receive comprehensive support services. Other students live at home, but receive food, clothes, educational materials, recreational programming, counseling, and other services from the Care Center.

Many former students of the Care Center have gone on to higher education, including in the medical field. Their individual successes will also continue to power Ethiopia’s growth and development.

Orphans And Vulnerable Children

People To People Inc strongly believes that for people infected and affected by the epidemic, HIV is not only a medical experience. It is also a social and emotional experience that profoundly affects their lives and their futures. Programming for children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS contributes to the achievement of an AIDS-free generation by responding to the social (including economic) and emotional consequences of the disease on children, their families, and communities that support them. Based on this ideal, P2P established boarding schools for girls who were orphaned due to HIV and AIDS in northern Ethiopia. The facility combined both community-based outreach and facility-based services, anchoring on child focused services which support their education, health care, psychosocial support, legal protection, and economic strengthening activities. So far 100 children have been supported and successfully finished their education and joined colleges.
